China granted exemptions to export controls on Nexperia chips intended for civilian applications, the commerce ministry said on Sunday.

German carmaker Volkswagen has received its first deliveries of chips, its China chief has said, according to German daily Handeslsblatt.

The move follows the Netherlands’ Sept. 30 decision to take temporary control of Nexperia under the Goods Availability Act, citing economic-security risks, the Dutch government said in a Oct. 12 notice.

Nexperia, owned by China’s Wingtech Technology, manufactures commodity chips widely used in automotive electrical systems; the company has detailed recent supply disruptions linked to U.S. export-control changes on its press page.
