Capgemini will provide digital infrastructure and systems integration for Bentley Motors’ manufacturing technology and back-office processes at Crewe, while strengthening the carmaker’s AI and data capabilities, the companies disclosed June 29.
The work makes Capgemini Bentley’s digital transformation lead as the carmaker modernizes its Dream Factory in Crewe, a plant modernization effort tied to the carmaker’s Beyond100+ strategy.
A broad scope of digital transformation
The assignment not only covers factory software, but Capgemini’s scope will also cover customer and commercial analytics, IT service operations, data architecture, manufacturing systems modernization, cost optimization and “continuous improvement”, according to the announcement.
The announcement describes expected outcomes, including clearer data ownership, reduced complexity, faster decision-making and improved efficiency, but it does not name the systems being replaced, the data platforms involved or the metrics Bentley will use to measure delivery.
Axel Dewitz, Bentley’s board member for finance and IT, said: “The integration is progressing smoothly and we’re looking to the future with a shared commitment to quality and agility.”
Digital upgrades meet a physical factory rebuild
The digital work lands on top of a physical rebuild at Bentley’s Pyms Lane site. In November 2025, Bentley said its first fully electric model, a “Luxury Urban SUV,” had entered pre-series build ahead of a planned launch toward the end of 2026, with market deliveries during 2027. The same update said the model would be designed, developed and produced in Crewe.
The Crewe investment has already changed the factory footprint. Bentley said its new Design Centre and Integrated Logistics Centre opened in 2025, while a new Paint Shop was due to open in 2026 as part of what it described as the largest self-funded site investment program in the company’s history. In March 2026, Bentley added that work was continuing on the A1 building, the future assembly line for its first battery-electric vehicle.
A revised timeline for full electrification
The factory rebuild is also taking place under a revised electrification plan. Bentley’s November 2025 strategy update said its previous target of being exclusively electric by 2035 “could be extended” because of customer demand for plug-in hybrid models.
Its 2025 Sustainability Report went further, saying it was “not yet possible to set a new date” for completing the transition, while the first fully electric Bentley remained on track for a 2026 reveal.
Operating amid falling revenue and job cuts
The operating backdrop adds another layer to the Capgemini engagement. Bentley reported 2025 revenue of €2.6 billion, down 1%, while customer deliveries fell 5% and operating profit came in at €216 million, with an operating return on sales of 8.3%.
The carmaker also announced a consultation program that could remove 275 positions from management, agency and non-manufacturing roles as it prepared for electrification and future product launches.
Tying the transformation together
Capgemini will arrive into overlapping changes to Bentley’s factory, product strategy and cost base. The workstreams will sit across the parts of Bentley now being changed, from manufacturing systems and back-office processes to customer analytics and cost optimization.
Capgemini’s Rob Pears said the work would draw on the company’s expertise in “integrating and modernising complex enterprise and manufacturing systems at scale.”
