Cybersecurity firm Cloudflare has suffered a ‘technical incident’, causing thousands of sites, including X (Twitter), Spotify, Uber and OpenAI, to experience site outages.

The company provides internet services such as making websites more efficient, protecting them from cyber-attacks, and improving security. This means that when it goes down, any site that relies on it also cannot load.

A spokesperson for Cloudflare said, “We saw a spike in unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare’s services beginning at 11:20 am. That causes some traffic passing through Cloudflare’s network to experience errors.”

At the time of writing, Cloudflare’s latest update is that “the issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.”

It said that it is “continuing working on restoring service for application services customers.”
