Digital Catapult has announced a £550,000 investment in Camera Intelligence, a deep tech startup developing an AI-driven on-device camera platform.

The funding, provided by Innovate UK, will support Camera Intelligence’s research and development activities, as well as its go-to-market strategy in the UK and internationally.

Camera Intelligence’s device combines the optical quality of a professional DSLR – featuring a Micro Four Thirds sensor and interchangeable lens mount – with the processing power of a smartphone.

Built on a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC and Google Coral Edge TPU, the system runs sophisticated AI models entirely on-device, with the hope of providing more creative control.

At its core is a proprietary AI architecture that turns the camera into what the company describes as a “collaborative creative partner.”

Powered by a Large Language Model (LLM), the platform allows creators to direct workflows using natural language.

Tasks such as initial camera setup or applying complex visual styles can be executed via simple voice commands.

The startup was developed during Digital Catapult’s AI innovation and accelerator programme, where it received investment readiness support, mentorship, consultancy and access to deep tech experimentation facilities.

“With this support, we’re excited to scale our intelligent solutions for the camera of the future, making high-quality content creation more accessible for creators,” said Vishal Kumar, CEO and co-founder of Camera Intelligence*.

Susan Bowen, CEO of Digital Catapult, added: “This breakthrough solution harnesses AI and advanced imaging to empower creators and transform digital media production.”
