Pizza delivery chain Papa Johns and Google Cloud have announced a multi-year partnership aimed at enhancing AI experiences for both customers and employees.
Papa Johns customers can expect personalised recommendations via email and text messages, with predictions based on learned preferences and upcoming events such as birthdays and sporting occasions.
App users will also receive a tailored experience, including unique discount codes or advertisements influenced by previous orders, preferences, location, and more.
This data will also allow Papa Johns’ marketing team to deploy AI-driven campaigns with customised offers, content, and timing.
Papa Johns also plans to develop an AI-powered chatbot to handle common customer inquiries, which it claims will seamlessly transfer customers to human agents for more complex queries.
Additionally, the company intends to introduce AI-powered voice ordering via the app, enabling customers to place orders by speaking without having to wait on the line.
Drivers will benefit from route optimisation as part of the partnership.
Papa Johns has also formed an innovation team, PJX, which will utilise Google Cloud’s AI, data analytics, and machine learning.

The pizza firm’s president and CEO Todd Penegor said: “Our partnership with Google Cloud will enable us to take personalisation to the next level. We’re not just reacting to orders – we’re anticipating our customer’s needs and proactively providing tailored recommendations and offers.”
Kevin Vasconi, chief digital and technology officer at Papa Johns added: “PJX will bring together teams from Papa Johns and Google Cloud to elevate the experience of Papa Johns’ customers at nearly every touchpoint – from the moment they first crave pizza and engage with Papa John’s, all the way to enjoying the first bite of their pizza order.”
