Nvidia to rent out its supercomputers to accelerate AI
Technology giant Nvidia has announced plans to rent its powerful and expensive supercomputers – used to develop AI technologies – available to businesses.
While set at the high price of $37,000 a month for eight of Nvidia’s A100 or H100 chips, the launch of the rental service could see a boom in AI technologies.
The announcement, made by Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang, said that it aims to will bring new AI, simulation and collaboration capabilities to every industry.
“The impressive capabilities of generative AI have created a sense of urgency for companies to reimagine their products and business models,” said Huang in his announcement.
The Californian-based company’s AI chips have already helped launch and maintain some of the past year’s biggest AI technologies, including partnering with Microsoft in order to build systems for OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Huang also presented how retail giant Amazon is using the supercomputers to train new autonomous warehouse robots.
“The iPhone moment of AI has started,” Huang added in his keynote.
Nvidia is working with Microsoft, Alphabet (Google), and Oracle in order to offer its supercomputers-as-a-service.
In the presentation, it also stated that it is working on new chips and software designs that will make AI technologies cheaper to operate.
Adding to the announcement, Nvidia and Microsoft’s revealed plans to offer a platform to Microsoft’s Azure and Microsoft 365 users which can be used for building and operating hyperrealistic virtual worlds.
