Zoom is partnering with Tools for Humanity to introduce real-time human verification in video meetings, as concerns rise over AI-driven impersonation and fraud.
The integration will bring World ID’s “Deep Face” technology into Zoom Meetings, allowing participants to confirm they are real individuals during live calls without sharing personal data.
The aim is to strengthen trust in high-risk environments such as financial services, healthcare and executive communications.
According to Deloitte, AI-enabled fraud losses in the US could rise from $12.3bn in 2023 to $40bn by 2027.
The new feature will use its real-time media streaming capabilities to verify users against a prior enrolment with World ID, which involves confirming identity via a dedicated camera device known as an Orb. During meetings, verified users will display a “Verified Human” badge on their video tile.
Brendan Ittelson, Zoom’s chief ecosystem officer, said the collaboration will help customers “confidently navigate the next era of AI-driven communication.”
Trevor Traina, chief business officer at Tools for Humanity, added: “As AI continues to blur the line between real and synthetic, establishing trust online becomes essential.”
The firm aims to keep users’ data private with authentication processed on their own devices and no personal data shared with Zoom or other meeting participants.
New features include a “Deep Face Waiting Room”, requiring users to verify their identity before joining calls, as well as the option to request verification checks during meetings.
The World ID Deep Face app is expected to launch on the Zoom App Marketplace later this year, with organisations invited to join a beta programme.
