Argo AI and Volkswagen unveil ID. Buzz AD self-driving van
Argo AI and partner Volkswagen have announced their first-generation ID. BUZZ AD self-driving test van at this year’s IAA.
The van uses technology such as SAE Level 4 automation capabilities and is currently being tested on Argo’s new track at Franz Josef Strauss International Airport in Munich. It will soon be used on public streets in the city.
The goal is to begin operating commercial services in Hamburg by 2025, and autonomous ride-pooling services will be run by VW subsidiary MOIA.
Argo AI received the van from VW earlier this year and integrated all of its own hardware and software in order for it to become self-driving.
Argo AI uses a form Light Detecting and Ranging (LiDAR), which it acquired when it bought Princeton Lightwave in 2017, which is a sensor with a range of 400 metres.
“Argo Lidar takes us to a whole new level of self-driving technology, unlocking our ability to power both delivery and ride-hail services,” said Bryan Salesky, CEO of Argo AI.
