Google Cloud, Google’s cloud computing unit, stopped selling new Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise subscriptions on Oct. 9. Existing customers can continue using the software under their contracts, but Google has set different deadlines for renewing subscriptions and adding licenses.

Under Google’s subscription sunset notice, customers can add licenses to existing subscriptions until Jan. 31, 2027. Annual subscriptions can also auto-renew until that date, while monthly subscriptions can continue auto-renewing until Dec. 31, 2027.

The deadlines do not mean the software will stop working on those dates. Google’s deprecation schedule lists the end of new sales, additional license purchases and renewals, but gives no shutdown date for the service itself. Existing subscriptions will remain supported until their contractual terms end.

Google changed access before the cutoff

In an Aug. 20 announcement, Google said Antigravity, its AI-powered development environment, was available through eligible Gemini Enterprise subscriptions. The company also introduced extensions for development environments such as VS Code and said administrators could track usage and set spending limits.

Google’s Sept. 4 release notes said billing accounts without an active Code Assist subscription could no longer purchase one through the Google Cloud console. Those customers were directed to Google Cloud sales.

On Sept. 17, Google said new or renewed Gemini Enterprise Standard and Plus subscriptions purchased online would no longer include Code Assist features. Existing subscriptions that included the features could retain access until their terms ended, while customers seeking Code Assist with Gemini Enterprise licenses were directed to Google Cloud sales.

Antigravity becomes Google’s alternative

For new customers, Google’s Oct. 9 Code Assist release notes identified Antigravity as an alternative to Code Assist, also available through the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. Access through Gemini Enterprise requires a qualifying edition linked to an invoiced Cloud Billing account, according to Google’s developer tools documentation.

Google advises customers to plan their subscription transition to Gemini Enterprise before their final renewal or contract end date. Its sunset notice does not provide a direct pricing comparison between Code Assist and Gemini Enterprise or explain whether existing Code Assist Enterprise code-customization settings would transfer to Antigravity.
