The rise of ChatGPT has brought AI to the forefront of tech and politics discussions, but what impact is it having on the jobs market? Aoibhinn McBride investigates
Three jobs in artificial intelligence and machine learning hiring right now
Six months on from ChatGPT’s explosive entry to market – the generative AI-powered chatbot garnered 100 million users in its first two months, something TikTok and Instagram only achieved after nine months and two years respectively – and it’s safe to say that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have had an immense impact on a range of jobs, even if you don’t work in either field.
The International Federation of Robotics has identified a 14% increase year-on-year in the number of automated jobs, and separate research from Goldman Sachs estimates that generative AI has the potential to automate 26% of work tasks in the arts, design and media.
For developers and engineers who have already moved or are contemplating pivoting to a career in AI or ML, the job market is ripe with opportunity.
According to recent data released by The World Economic Forum, AI and ML specialists will be in the highest demand in the next five years and rapid growth in the field will create 95 million high-paying jobs by 2025.
Additional data from the World Economic Forum’s report has revealed that more than 75% of companies plan on adopting AI technologies to optimise digitisation.
The UK government also forecasts that AI-specific adoption will increase from 15.1% in 2020 to 22.7% in 2025 and will be at 34.8% by 2040 due to 1.3 million businesses relying on AI.
This should equate to expenditure of £83.5 billion, at a compound annual growth rate of 8.4%.
And AI solutions for data management are most common with 9% of UK firms having adopted them, followed by natural language processing and generation (8%), machine learning (7%), AI hardware (5%), computer vision and image processing and generation (5%).
So if you’re ready to accelerate your career by getting in on the AI and ML action early, the TechInformed Job Board is the perfect place to start your search.
It features thousands of jobs in organisations that are actively spurning on advances in both fields, and hiring accordingly, like the three below.
